National Pollutant Release Inventory
Attention Environmental Managers:
The June 1 reporting deadline is very important. As in the past, owners or operators of facilities who fail to submit, file a false, misleading, or late report may be subject to legal enforcement in accordance with the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). What is the National Pollutant Release Inventory?
The NPRI is a federal government initiative to collect annual data on releases to air, water, and land, and transfers for disposal or recycling of 249 specified substances.
Is Your Facility Exempt from Reporting?
The NPRI program is not voluntary, however, a number of exclusions exist. For example, facilities that are used exclusively for educating or training students, research or testing are not required to report. Facilities used to maintain and repair transportation vehicles or used for the distribution, storage or retail sale of fuels are not required to report. The following chart may assist you in determining whether or not your are exempt.

It is important that you review your reporting status and check with Environment Canada, or Pinchin Environmental, if you are uncertain of your reporting obligations. If you are required to report, and have not received a reporting package from Environment Canada contact them at (819) 953-1656 for the nearest office to you.
