This one-day Forum will feature two plenary sessions; four workshops and 2 keynote speakers: Lina De Cesare, President of Tour Operators and Co-founder, Transat A.T. Inc., will present "Transat: Seeking Sustainability In Mass Tourism"; and Dr. Bob Willard, a leading expert on the business value of corporate sustainability strategies addressing "The Business Case for Sustainable Travel".
As a sponsor for the 2009 Responsible Travel and Tourism Forum, Pinchin Environmental is estimating the carbon footprint for the event. The annual RTTF is organized by Baxter Travel Media to help the Canadian travel and tourism industry to stay current with environmental issues relating to travel. For two years running, Pinchin Environmental has provided a carbon footprint assessment for the RTTF.
The GHG emissions for the following sources will be quantified:
- Direct sources of GHGs from event site emissions;
- Transport of artists/performers, support staff and organizers (to/from);
- Emissions associated with the accommodations of artists/performers, support staff and organizers;
- Emissions associated with the disposal of waste products from the event;
- Transport of audience/delegates to/from the event venue (optional).
As a result of the carbon footprint assessment, Baxter Travel Media will purchase an equal amount of carbon offsets, making this a CarbonNeutral™ event.
