Course Overview and Scope

This course is designed for workers that will be conducting low, moderate and high risk asbestos operations. Those who successfully complete the course will receive the Alberta Labour Asbestos Worker Certification 

Course Outline

In this course you will learn about:

  • Uses and common types of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in buildings
  • Health effects of asbestos exposure
  • Legislation
  • Hazard Assessment
  • Air and Bulk Sampling
  • Other hazards associated with asbestos removal
  • PPE
  • Low Risk
  • Moderate Risk
  • High Risk

This course also includes:

  • A “hands-on” practical exerciseusing a glove bag
  • A table top exercise in the design and set up of a high risk containment

Instructor Bio

Chris Taylor, EET, ROHT
Practice Lead, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) & Indoor Hygiene

Chris Taylor is the Regional Practice Leader for Western Canada and NW Ontario in the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) group. Chris has over 23 years of experience as both an occupational hygienist / safety consultant and in managing asbestos and lead remediation projects. Chris has conducted and managed over 3,800 projects, including numerous large scale / high profile projects such as landmark studies for silica for the Government of Alberta and wood dust and noise for the Alberta Forest Products Association. He was responsible for overall site safety oversight for the CN Wabamun oil spill clean-up project. Chris is also a former instructor in occupational hygiene at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension, where he has taught for over 10 years.

Upon completing this course, each participant is provided with a certificate as proof of the training.
