Pinchin Environmental offers a ½ day course on how contaminated land issues affect real estate transactions and leases. In any type of leasing or purchase transaction, environmental liabilities can have severe financial and legal implications for all concerned.

This course will assist portfolio and property managers and others involved in property sales and leasing to:

  • minimize claims in contaminated land transactions
  • understand the duty to disclose
  • avoid pitfalls in drafting the offer
  • identify environmental concerns relating to former and present land use
  • interpret environmental site assessments and audits
  • assess clean-up options and registration on title
  • identify who to call and what to do when contamination stands in the way of a deal

At the end of this course, participants will have a broad understanding of how to:

  • minimize claims and allocate environmental risk
  • make proper disclosure and only at the right time
  • avoid pitfalls in lease and sale agreements
  • identify environmental "hidden treasures" relating to former and current land use
  • interpret environmental site assessments and audits
  • assess clean-up options and registration on title
  • identify who to call and what to do when contamination stands in the way of a deal

Course Outline:

A property transaction involving contaminated land can have severe financial, not to mention legal implications for all concerned. Some environmental concerns will prevent closing, while others (like leaking storage tanks) may remain hidden for years. The course explains several simple steps, which can be taken to address these concerns.

Format and Methodology:

This is a one half-day course. The course delivery is focused significantly on the specific concerns and interests of each particular group in attendance. Discussions are strongly encouraged.

A course manual is provided to minimize the need to take notes and to maximize participation. The course manual also allows for better retention of knowledge and creates individualized follow-up reference material. Follow-up training support and materials are available.

Pinchin Environmental Ltd. will issue a certificate to each participant at the end of this course.
