At the end of this course, participants will have a good understanding of the framework for environmental regulation in Ontario.
The focus of the course is on environmental regulation as applicable to industrial and commercial establishments, including the following regulated activities:
- Air Emissions and Permit Requirements
- Wastewater Discharges: To Sewer Systems, Waterways, and Septic Systems
- Hazardous Waste Management
- Nonhazardous Waste Management
- Chemical and Fuel Storage
- Asbestos, PCBs, and Designated Substances
- Ozone Depleting Substances
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods
- Emission Reporting
Course Outline:
This course takes a practical approach to environmental regulation and compliance in Ontario, by addressing the common activities that industrial and commercial facilities undertake and following each through to the specific regulatory requirements that apply. This bottom-up approach differs from many courses that describe the legislation/regulations, but leave participants wondering how they might apply in the real world.
Participants will gain a solid foundation of knowledge of the regulatory framework in Ontario for environmental compliance. The course is ideal for environmental and health & safety coordinators who need to understand environmental compliance in Ontario.

Format and Methodology:
This is a one-day course. The course delivery is focused significantly on participant involvement. Group work and discussions are strongly encouraged. Participants will benefit from realistic examples and interpretations of the various activities that are regulated by environmental statues in Ontario.
A participant workbook is provided to minimize the need to take notes and to maximize participation. The workbook also allows for better retention of knowledge and creates individualized follow-up reference material. Follow-up training support and materials are available.
