At the end of this course, participants will have a broad understanding of:
- Types and Uses of Asbestos;
- Health Effects – Occupational and Non-Occupational;
- Building Survey, Hazard Assessment and Bulk & Air Sampling Methods;
- Ministry of Labour Asbestos Regulations;
- Transportation and Disposal Regulations;
- Management Program Development;
- How to Perform Major Asbestos Control Projects - Notifications and Site Preparation;
- Worker Protection - Type 2 or Type 3 Work;
- Asbestos Removal and Clean-up Methods; Clearance Air Monitoring;
- Sources of equipment and supplies.
Course Outline:
There has been an increase in awareness of the health hazards posed by asbestos-containing materials in buildings. The use of friable sprayed-on fireproofing or insulation, ceiling tiles, texture coats, or mechanical (pipe and boiler) insulation has been widespread and now, as buildings, plants or other structures are renovated or demolished, there is a significant hazard to construction workers and nearby occupants. O.Reg. 278/05 requires mandatory training and completion of a written examination for all Type 3 Workers and Supervisors by November 1, 2007.
Format and Methodology:
This is a three-day course. The course covers theoretical principles but stresses practical field experience of asbestos control. It includes lectures, audio-visuals and demonstrations in several areas. Group input and discussions are strongly encouraged.
A course manual is provided to minimize the need to take notes and to maximize participation. The course manual also allows for better retention of knowledge and follow-up reference material.
Pinchin Environmental Ltd. provides an optional examination and will issue a certificate to each participant at the end of this course.
In addition, this course covers the content of the mandatory Type 3 Worker Training Materials as outlined by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Subsequent to this training, workers must challenge the appropriate examinations
given through the Ontario Community College system. This will require advance
registration by the employer (Signing Authority). For information on this,
contact Pinchin directly before the course. Supervisors will require additional supervisory training to challenge the Supervisor’s examination.
Cost: $1,195 plus GST per person
