Hazards and Abatement of Lead in Buildings and Construction
At the end of this course, participants will have a broad understanding of:
- Lead materials used in construction, persons at risk
- Testing methods and criteria for lead in air, lead paint, lead dust, and waste
- Regulated duties and responsibilities
- Abatement options, pros and cons
- Abatement work practices.
Course Outline:
Construction managers, architects, engineers and facilities managers need to be concerned about potential hazards from lead dust and lead-based paints. Lead may be present in lead-based building paint or corrosion-resistant coatings or may be residual contamination in a building from industrial operations or firing ranges. Regardless of the source, building managers and contractors are responsible to identify and control any potential hazard during use of the building, and especially during renovations or demolition. This course is designed to familiarize attendees with the concerns and solutions for lead control.
