Why should I be concerned about hazardous materials in my building?

Hazardous materials often pose a health risk to your employees, your customers, and persons using the building. If someone is injured because of the materials in the building you may be liable. In addition, the presence of hazardous materials often affects the leasability and almost always reduces the sale value of a building

Do you provide training in asbestos for your clients?

Yes, one of the most common courses we have is a one-day asbestos maintenance-training course. This is a regulatory requirement in Ontario and Manitoba.

Pinchin also presents open and in-house training courses of two and three day duration on asbestos, mould remediation, lead and other health and safety issues. To see our course listing, click here.

As of November 1, 2007 workers and supervisors in Type 3 Asbestos Abatement sites in Ontario will be required to have completed a Training Program approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).

Workers or Supervisors on Type 3 projects who have completed a training course prior to the enactment of O. Reg. 278/05 and who have 1,000 hours of Type 3 work experience are not required to attend a full 2 or 3 day training course to become qualified under the proposed Worker and Supervisor Training Programs approved by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.

Pinchin Environmental is providing both shorter Refresher/Update courses for experienced asbestos workers and supervisors, and full MTCU required courses. Please follow this link for full details on these courses .

What takes place in the one-day asbestos maintenance training session?

Employees in a workplace are taught what asbestos is, where it comes from, how prevalent it is, where you find it in buildings, how to identify it, how to do minor amounts of repair and removal to facilitate their day to day operations. We discuss some of the common uses of asbestos that employees need to know about when operating their facilities. We talk about the health effect of asbestos, and the regulations surrounding asbestos. Part of the training is a 'hands-on' or demonstration session where we actively involve attendees in doing asbestos removal, and show them how to decontaminate themselves and to ensure that work is completed safely. We also take employees through respirator training.
