Hamilton Cooling Tower Registry By-Law
Legionella Control in Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers
What you need to know.
If you are a building owner operating any facility with a cooling tower in the City of Hamilton, you should attend this seminar.
Hamilton’s proposed by-law, slated to pass in early 2011, requires building owners in the City of Hamilton to:
- Register on an annual basis with Hamilton Public Health Services, all cooling towers and evaporative condensers that operate seasonally or year round.
- Provide evidence that a Risk Management Plan is in effect for these towers.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are implemented and recorded
The Pinchin complimentary seminar will provide you with:
- An understanding of the requirements of this new By-law.
- Reference to currents standards on this issue.
- Awareness of risk factors for Legionella growth.
- Information on sampling and testing for Legionella
Exposure to Legionella pneumophila can result in serious consequences. In 2005, a Legionella outbreak in a long-term care facility in Scarborough, Ontario, resulted in a total of 135 infections and 23 deaths. The source of the Legionella is believed to have been the building’s cooling tower. Other Ontario outbreaks have occurred in 2006 and 2008.
