Legionella Consulting Services and Training
* Risk assessments * Risk management * Training
Our consultants and field staff have over 5 years of experience in Legionella investigations site reviews to detect problem areas, risk communication and remediation. They take a holistic approach to managing Legionella in water systems, providing you with a complete program to minimize risk and protect the health of building occupants.
We also provide awareness training to allow clients to proactively manage the issue.
The impact of a Legionella outbreak can be severe, widespread and cause serious or fatal disease. Pinchin has been called in on a number of such cases to detect the source and recommend solutions or potentially just to alleviate occupant concerns. The methods to detect and eliminate Legionella risk requires care and a signification knowledge of water systems and Legionella characteristics.
Pinchin recommends a proactive approach to water management particularly in all health care facilities and commercial buildings which also have cooling towers. We can assist in developing a Preventive Maintenance Program and provide training to ensure your staff are aware of the appropriate steps to be taken.
Risk of Legionella in Potable Water Systems
The Ministry of Labour issued “Information Bulletin Workplace Health and Safety Guideline - Legionella” “to remind employers of their obligations to protect the health and safety of workers, provide information about Legionnaires’ disease and re-affirm expectations of employers and workers”.
For further information on reducing your risk, please see our "Minimizing the Risk of Legionella in Potable Water Systems" paper.
Pinchin Environmental Legionella Laboratory
Our Legionella Laboratory provides professional analytical services for water and swab samples. Sample analysis will identify and determine concentrations of Legionella pneumophila; its serogroups; other Legionella species and total concentrations of all Legionella bacterium identified.
The Pinchin Environmental Microbiology Laboratory is the ONLY Canadian laboratory to receive American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Accreditation for Legionella analysis. This accreditation for the identification and enumeration of Legionella bacteria is awarded under the AIHA’s ISO 11731 standard, making Pinchin Environmental a member of a small, elite group of laboratories achieving and maintaining superior standards and analytical results.
Pinchin Environmental’s Microbiology lab is also certified for the analysis of Legionella bacteria by the prestigious Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation (ELITE) program of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The purpose of the ELITE program is given on the ELITE home page.
Our Legionella Laboratory can also work with your water treatment firm to provide reliable testing to prove due diligence in your water management.
