Odour Laboratory Field Services
Odour analysis of in a controlled lab setting is not always possible, or a practical option for clients requiring immediate results and real-time measurements. An alternative approach is a community odour assessment, using trained assessors in the field to measure and evaluate odour events as they occur. To facilitate this, Pinchin provides the following field services:
1) Odour Sensitivity Testing
Pinchin provides odour sensitivity screening for clients with permanent or contract community odour assessors on staff. Assessors are screened to determine their sensitivity to n-butanol, which is a common reference odourant prescribed by the European Standard for olfactometry EN 13725:2003. Sensitivity screening for community odour assessors has been documented internationally, and Pinchin provides odour monitoring staff with a benchmark sensitivity range, as well as regular follow-up screenings to ensure assessor consistency. Screening are done at Pinchin’s Head Office in Mississauga, or at your facility. Up to 12 assessors can be screened in a day, with results provided within 24 hours.

2) Nasal Ranger Field Olfactometer
For real-time odour measurements, Pinchin offers field services using Nasal Ranger Field Olfactometers. Pinchin uses groups of trained odour assessors, screened to meet the accuracy and precision requirements of the European Standard for olfactometry CEN 13725:2003, to take onsite odour measurements. The Nasal Ranger follows the same basic principles as Pinchin’s Ac’Scent olfactometer, using carbon filtered air to determine the number of dilutions required to reach an odour’s detection threshold. The Nasal Ranger is lightweight and portable, allowing Pinchin’s odour assessors to take readings at multiple locations onsite within a short time-frame.
