The Pinchin Environmental Microbiology Laboratory offers analytical services for mould and bacteria. We are fully accredited for bulk, air and surface analysis of moulds by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Environmental Microbiological Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP) and participate in the AIHA Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (EMPAT) Program (Lab ID# 158835). We are the only AIHA EMLAP accredited lab in Ontario and one of only four in Canada.

The laboratory is fully equipped for the isolation, identification, and culturing of moulds commonly detected in air, fluids and bulk samples. The laboratory will analyse to the species level, mould of importance to air quality, including species level identification and quantification of moulds of significance to health. Protocols used at the Pinchin Environmental Microbiology Laboratory are based on those published in recognized journals or being used in internationally recognized laboratories.

Direct microscope analysis of spore trap samples is used to identify fungal spores and particulate. Rush turnaround available, within 4 hours of receipt, where required.

Swab and bulk samples can also be analyzed for sewage-indicator bacteria.
