On February 1, 2010, more of Ontario Regulation 419/05 will be phased-in. Industries listed in Schedule 4 will be required to demonstrate compliance using advanced atmospheric dispersion models. Compliance will be measured against more stringent point of impingement limits. Schedule 2 will become effective for other manufacturers.  read more »

Pinchin Environmental's asbestos analysis study confirms that if analysts are properly trained in analysis of vinyl floor tiles by PLM, perform the analysis following the specified protocols and spend adequate time on the analysis of samples, the analysis of vinyl tile using PLM alone is reliable.   read more »

Ontario Ministry of Labour Enforcement Blitz!

The Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) has announced an inspection and enforcement “blitz” of chemical use is planned for industrial and health care workplaces. OH&S inspectors will be concentrating on the use of chemical substances that are potentially “caustic, noxious, or allergenic” during workplace inspections in September 2009.  read more »

Amendments to Ontario Regulation 419/05

New MOE Policy Proposal

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has posted for comment a Policy Proposal Notice that provides emission limits for power generator sets that are used in non-emergency situations such as for peak shaving or in the Ontario Power Authorities (OPA) Demand Response (DR) Program. The limits will apply to internal combustion engines running on diesel, bio-diesel, natural gas, or dual fuel (natural gas/diesel) systems.  read more »

Update on Risks and Control of Mould, Lead and Silica on Construction Projects

Moulds are microscopic organisms, part of the Fungi kingdom of living matter, most of which reproduce through the production of massive numbers of spores. Mould spores can germinate within 24 hours of wetting and will produce the next generation of spores within 3 to 7 days. Current standards require that wetted materials be dried within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mould growth.  read more »
