Occupational Noise Exposure

& Environmental Noise Compliance

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has amended the Industrial Establishment Regulations to update the occupational exposure limits for noise and provide greater worker protection. These changes were effective July 1, 2007.

The Ontario Ministry of Environment requires an Acoustic Assessment with Certificate of Approval application submissions when there is insufficient separation distance between noise generating equipment and the noise sensitive receptor (house, daycare, hospital, etc.).  

Further, the provincial noise guidelines are based on the geographic location of the equipment and the background noise.  Without a basic understanding of environmental noise you could unduly hold your company to a higher standard than is needed.
