The Occupational Hygiene Review: An Important Part of a Workplace Safety and Health Program
In this Awareness Session, participants learn the requirements of the Safety and Health Program and the chemical evaluation. You also learn how an Occupational Hygiene Review can satisfy many of the legal requirements associated with the use of hazardous chemicals. The presentation of the program is delivered in a user-friendly style.
Background:
For every workplace in Manitoba where 20 or more workers are regularly employed, the law requires the employer to establish a written workplace safety and health program.
Most workplaces in Manitoba use some hazardous chemicals in their facilities. The law in Manitoba requires that any workplaces that use such chemicals prepare a plan for the control of any biological or chemical substance used, produced, stored or disposed of, at the workplace.
For all employers (even the ones with less than 20 workers), the law also requires an employer to assess all information that is practicably available respecting a chemical or biological substance present in the workplace, to determine if the substance creates or may create a risk to the safety or health of a worker in the workplace. This assessment or evaluation of chemicals is a very important part of every program for the protection of worker safety and health. Workplace chemical evaluations are very difficult for persons who are not experts in the field of Occupational Hygiene.
Pinchin Environmental has Occupational Hygienists available who have experience in conducting chemical evaluations. Not only does Pinchin have these resources, but Pinchin also has a procedure for conducting the chemical evaluation itself. This procedure is called the "Occupational Hygiene Review".
