A Day in the life of a Geotechnical Engineer/Project Manager at Pinchin:

  • You will work with a team of engineers and technicians to deliver all types of geotechnical projects.
  • You will be responsible for the delivery of small to medium sized projects and assist in the delivery of large projects.
  • Manage geotechnical investigations including field coordination, subcontractors, budget and schedule.
  • Engineering design and assessment to various geotechnical systems including foundation design, slope stability, settlement analysis, etc.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and proposals.

What you bring to the Pinchin team

  • Degree or diploma in Geotechnical, Civil or Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Intermediate level experience in geotechnical engineering with project management experience.
  • Either licensed or the ability to become licensed with the PEO or OACETT
  • Able to work closely with our project teams across the company where geotechnical support may be of assistance, such as Environmental Due Diligence and Remediation and Building Sciences.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, showcasing the ability to communicate effectively, as well as proactively respond to clients on time sensitive items.
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, clients and managers.
  • Proven technical writing skills in the preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and letters for clients.

We are seeking an experienced Building Envelope Engineer to join our dynamic team in Alberta. You will play a key role in performing and managing building science investigations, designing effective remediation strategies, conducting on-site inspections, and delivering comprehensive reporting services. What you will be doing at Pinchin:

  • Executing building science projects from inception to completion that are delivered on time, on budget and exceed the Client’s expectations. Project work typically involves: Fieldwork to assess existing building conditions, identify issues, and formulate appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Summarizing findings and recommendations in a professional format (technical report or memorandum) for Client consideration and future action.
  • Designing solution(s) to Client issues (either as design drawing set or recommendations / instructions).
  • Field / progress reviews of construction underway.
  • Collaborating with peers within Building Science and other in-house disciplines to deliver holistic and robust solutions to Clients. Acting as a Senior Reviewer to scrutinize work of others and provide internal peer review prior to publishing to a client. This may involve review of: property condition assessments, reserve fund studies, and other building science designs.
  • Developing strong Client relationships, and tailoring solutions that align with their goals.
  • Committing to professional development and actively staying up to date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in building science and real estate transactions.
  • Leading project teams that prioritize effective communication and strong teamwork.
  • Solving complex building science challenges, proactively leveraging technical knowledge and innovative thinking.
  • Assisting with new business development and representing Pinchin with professionalism.
  • Coaching and mentoring of technical staff in Alberta.

What You'll Need:

  • Professional Engineer designation (APEGA preferred)
  • Proven experience (5+ years) within building science in the role of engineer or project manager. Priority will be given to those with experience of on-site assessments, reporting, development of technical solutions and leadership of a team of peers.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to create clear, concise, and impactful reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational and time management abilities.
  • Relevant certifications in building science, project management, or related fields are a plus.
  • Proficiency in industry-specific software/tools and thorough knowledge of building science concepts
  • Collaborative and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Team Leadership training or experience
  • Commitment to staying current with industry developments and continuous professional developments.
  • A valid driver’s licence, insurance and access to your own personal vehicle required (work-related travel will be compensated)

Pinchin is currently looking for a Senior Risk Assessor to join Pinchin’s Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) team. The primary components of the work are to oversee and prepare risk assessments and soil vapour intrusion assessments under Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 153/04 and for due diligence purposes.

The successful candidate must have experience completing Ontario risk assessment process (O. Reg. 153/04), as well as indoor air and soil vapour intrusion assessments. In addition, an understanding or willingness to learn other applicable Provincial or Federal regulations is an asset, such that the candidate may support the ERA Practise across Canada, as needed.

Travel to various client sites may occasionally be required as well as travel between offices for team and client meetings. It will be necessary to work with staff at different offices and in different service lines, so it is important that the Risk Assessor be able to communicate effectively and maintain a positive and cooperative environment.

What you will be doing at Pinchin

  • Prepare risk assessment reports and provide recommendations; activities may include data tabulation, data review, exposure modelling, reporting, intermediate quality reviews, editing
  • Project management of risk assessment and/or soil vapour intrusion assessment projects and provide technical expertise on human health and ecological risk management
  • Act as an inter-office liaison for Pinchin’s ERA Practise, by conducting risk assessment feasibilities and assisting in data gap analyses, based on Phase II/Two site investigations
  • Financial responsibility for projects, preparation of proposals, reports and invoices
  • Participate in business development efforts with both new and existing clients
  • Maintain and enhance quality control within the group
  • Assist in mentoring and training junior professional staff, as needed
  • Submit all work for quality review prior to submission to clients
  • Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned

What you bring to the Pinchin team

  • Bachelor of Science Degree. Degree in biological sciences, toxicology or environmental studies is preferred
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in environmental consulting, including experience conducting complete risk assessments as well as indoor air and soil vapour intrusion assessments.
  • Project Management experience is an asset
  • Experience conducting and coordinating soil vapour intrusion assessments is an asset
  • Must be familiar with O. Reg. 153/04, at a minimum. An understanding of other applicable Provincial or Federal environmental regulations is an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Teams, Power Point and Outlook
  • Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills
  • Aptitude for reasoning and problem-solving
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in groups, as required for complex projects
  • Valid driver’s licence required (work-related travel expenses will be compensated)
  • Availability to travel for work within the GTA region and between offices for team and client meetings. Occasional travel within other areas of Ontario may be required

A Day in the life of Project Manager

  • Managing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental projects (i.e, monitoring, remediation); ensuring they are completed on time and on budget.
  • Performing Project Management duties both locally and with assistance of staff in other regions to manage national portfolios.
  • Assist project staff with the preparation of technical reports and recommendations.
  • Communicate with Clients and understand their project requirements.

What you bring to the Pinchin team

  • Proven track record and experience with conducting and managing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • A bachelor’s degree in science (Environmental or Earth Sciences preferred) or bachelor’s degree in engineering or Applied Science.
  • A P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation is not required but is considered an asset.
  • 5-7 years of experience within environmental consulting, at least 2 of which should be in a project management position.
  • An understanding of current environmental regulations and standards within Nova Scotia.
  • Experience with invoicing, budgeting, and other areas of project related financial management.
  • Experience with business development initiatives and client interaction.
  • Valid driver’s licence and insurance are required (work related travel expenses will be compensated).
  • Strong communication skills & professional presentation.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • High level of attention to details.
