Seminar Overview

Pinchin’s Asbestos Awareness & Type 1 Worker Operations training course offers a thorough yet concise overview of asbestos uses, health hazards, and regulatory requirements. This course is designed for anyone who may encounter asbestos in the workplace, as well as those who are involved in health & safety or administer Asbestos Management Programs.

This course will also cover the theoretical training requirements required to perform Type 1 asbestos work operations in accordance with the requirements under Section 19 of Ontario Regulation 278/05. Please note: the scope of this course does not include the requirements for performing Type 2 or Type 3 asbestos work. Please refer to Section 12 of Ontario Regulation 278/05 for the specific classifications of asbestos work operations or contact us if you require guidance.

Seminar Outline

In this course you will learn about:

  • Uses and common types of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in buildings
  • Health effects of asbestos exposure
  • Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development – Ontario Regulation 278/05
    • Owner and contractor responsibilities under Ontario Regulation 278/05
    • Classification of asbestos work and brief review of the differences in the procedures
    • Measures and procedures for Types 1 Asbestos Operations
    • Personal hygiene and personal protective equipment for Types 1 Asbestos Operations (including training on general respirator use & care)
  • Regulatory requirements for asbestos waste transportation and disposal
  • Understanding a typical asbestos survey report (facilitated using a sample document)

Debra Meades, B.Sc., M.E.M.
Senior Project Manager, Occupational Health & Safety & Practice Lead for Northeastern Ontario

Debra Meades is a Senior Project Manager and the Northeastern Ontario Regional Practice Lead in the OHS group and has been employed by Pinchin Ltd. since 2018. Debra holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management from Queensland Central University and a Bachelor of Science in Behavioural Neuroscience from Laurentian University.Debra has worked as an EHS professional for over 12 years, having extensive experience implementing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management Systems, carrying out internal and external management system audits, delivering training, and carrying out occupational hygiene surveys in various sectors including manufacturing, mining, and utilities.
