Wildfires have become more common and aggressive over the last 5 summers in Canada, and this is going to get worse before it gets better!
The smoke from wildfires has become a significant indoor health hazard. Managing indoor air quality when the ambient air quality outside is very poor is a real challenge.

Having an adaptive plan to respond to wildfire smoke is the best method of pro-active preparation.  By following a few simple strategies, building operators can optimize occupant comfort, and reassure staff that their health and safety are being managed effectively.

Join us as our Director of Indoor Environmental Quality, David Shearer and our Project Technologist, Molly Mastel walk you through the importance of having a plan for wildfire smoke, what a plan looks like, who needs to be part of the plan & how to implement the plan with your team quickly and efficiently.

Seminar Instructors

David Shearer
Director, Indoor Environmental Quality

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph and is a Canadian Green Building Council, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) and a member of the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists. David has more than 15 years of environmental consulting experience and has completed nearly 4,000 projects on behalf of Pinchin Ltd., including detailed mould, IEQ and hazardous materials site assessments; risk assessments; remedial solution design; quality assurance monitoring; reinstatement; and renovation. This experience extends to residential, commercial, industrial and government projects. David has been responsible for a variety of high-profile water damage and mould assessment projects in some of Western Canada’s most valuable and unique buildings. This includes developing assessment methodologies, selecting assessment tools and analytical methods, evaluating remediation processes, implementation planning, monitoring and oversight.

Molly Mastel
Project Technologist, Indoor Environmental Quality           

Molly holds a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Health from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington (USA). Molly is a member of the National Environmental Health Association in the United States. Molly has a variety of different experiences within the environmental health field. Some examples of this include occupational health and safety, emergency planning and program management, academic research, and public health education. Now, Molly’s experience also includes environmental consulting for projects involving field work of IAQ assessments, hazardous materials surveys and radon gas measurement and mitigation system design, including collecting dust, mould, asbestos fibre and bacteria samples to evaluate the extent of their presence and the potential exposure risk to patients, workers and occupants. This experience extends to industrial, commercial and government projects.
