World Energy Efficiency Day serves as a global reminder of the critical role energy efficiency plays in our sustainable future. This day highlights the importance of optimizing our energy use to reduce waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance energy security. Building Science and Mechanical Engineering are at the core of energy efficiency, encompassing principles and technologies that help design and construct energy-efficient buildings.

Why Are We Recognizing World Energy Efficiency Day?

This day serves as a global platform to raise awareness, promote energy-saving practices, and advocate for policies that support energy efficiency. As the world faces mounting environmental challenges, embracing energy efficiency is key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving resources, and creating a more sustainable future. It’s a day to celebrate achievements in energy efficiency and inspire action towards a more energy-efficient world.

Pinchin Can Assist in Maximizing Your Energy-Efficiency

Building Science & Sustainability Team

Pinchin’s Building Science & Sustainability team is dedicated to maximizing the performance of one of your most important assets – your built environment. Pinchin investigates and implements systemic initiatives that help our client’s assets become healthier, more durable and more sustainable. Closely supported by our Mechanical Engineering team, we have registered Professional Engineers and LEED Accredited Professionals available to assess your building’s existing condition, conduct preventive maintenance planning, conduct energy audits, and support sustainability programs onsite.

Net Zero Studies

Our team can help in developing a roadmap in reducing net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with buildings to achieve decarbonization goals. Maximize energy efficiency with a focus on the building envelope and ventilation strategies that drive down thermal energy demand.

Energy Modelling Reports and Accessibility Reports

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Mortgage Loan Insurance (CMHC MLI Select) product offers insurance incentives based on affordability, energy efficiency and accessibility. Pinchin is an expert in energy report creation to obtain energy efficiency points under this program. We have created over 50 reports across Canada with over 90% of the reports created by Pinchin having achieved at least Level 1 (30 points) in the Energy Efficiency Category. For the accessibility pathway, Pinchin has Rick Hansen certified assessors versed in CSA B651-18 fully capable in advising on accessible design.

Certification Consulting

Sustainability initiatives for customers often require a building to be certified to a specific standard. This Pinchin service offering is centered on supporting clients in understanding the gaps to achieve certifications, and executing an implementation plan. Pinchin can provide consulting on include: LEED, BOMA, Fitwel, Zero Carbon, Energy Star and Rick Hansen.

We can provide cradle to grave sustainability services for your buildings including the following:

  • Sustainable design for new construction or retrofits
  • Building Certification consulting
  • Field assessments, measurements, and sample collection for certification
  • Audits, modelling and planning
  • Development of policies, practices, and implementation plans
  • Water Use Planning: Reduction, Retention, Re-use, and Potable Water Treatment

Taking The First Step In Adopting Energy Efficiency

Energy-Efficient Tips:

If you are considering adopting a sustainability approach for your property or the property you manage, you can take the first step by considering the following tips:

LED Lighting

LED lights use significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and have a much longer lifespan, making them a cost-effective and energy-efficient lighting option for buildings.

Energy-Efficient HVAC Systems

High-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can significantly reduce energy consumption by optimizing the heating and cooling of indoor spaces.

Smart Thermostats

Smart thermostats can help optimize heating and cooling systems by automatically adjusting temperatures based on occupancy and user preferences, leading to energy savings.

Energy Star Appliances

Energy Star-rated appliances, such as refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines, are designed to consume less energy while providing the same level of performance as standard appliances.

Building Automation Systems

Building automation systems can help monitor and control energy usage in buildings by optimizing lighting, HVAC, and other systems based on occupancy and environmental conditions.

  • Smart Thermostats
  • LED Lighting
  • Energy-Efficient HVAC Systems
