Course Overview
Under the new BC legislation amendment to the Workers Compensation Act, all asbestos workers who perform asbestos abatement work must complete the mandatory safety training and hold a valid certificate. Workers conducing asbestos abatement will require Level 1 and Level 2 Asbestos Certification courses. These requirements will come into effect as of January 1, 2024.


Course Outline

Asbestos Foundational Awareness Training Course (Level 1) which will provide students with a gold standard level of training on asbestos materials, health effects, and regulations. It is required for anyone who transports asbestos material or disposes of asbestos waste. Recommended for any worker that would benefit from general asbestos safety knowledge.

Asbestos Abatement Safety Training Course (Level 2) which will provide a safety-focused, accessible, and hands-on training, for new and experienced workers. The course will include everything required to get you and your workers certified to perform Moderate and High Risk asbestos abatement, including the WorkSafeBC written exam!

Prerequisites and Materials

  • Course will be presented in English; a working command of English is required
  • Minimum age is 18 years old
  • All participants must bring a valid drivers license and/or valid government issued ID on all course days.
  • Course is for Level 1 + Level 2. If individual course offerings are required, please contact Nadia Slakov
  • All course material, student workbooks, tools and equipment will be provided
  • For Level 2 training, all course participants will require a NIOSH approved personal ½ mask air purifying respirator with P100 cartridges on all course days. option to purchase a half-mask respirator (or use shared class resources).
  • For Level 2, all participants must be clean shaven and prepared to don safety equipment for practical exercises and assessments.
  • Refreshments will be provided.

​Instructor Bio(s)

Nadia Slakov
Training Manager, Hazardous Materials 

Nadia Slakov is Training Manager in the Hazardous Materials group and has been employed by Pinchin Ltd. since 2013. Nadia holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Design from the University of British Columbia and a Diploma of Technology in Horticulture from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Nadia has eight years of environmental consulting experience and has completed over 600 projects on behalf of Pinchin Ltd. involving full project field work and coordination of hazardous materials abatements of all sizes; hazardous material surveys for pre-renovation, demolition and management purposes; siteinspections and air monitoring; and development of technical specifications and proposals. Nadia is a highly capable member of the hazardous material field team,carrying out numerous hazardous material surveys across the province and providing consulting services on large asbestos and lead paint remediation and abatement projects.

Martin Sheridan
Project Manager, Hazardous Materials

With over 9 years of environmental consulting experience, Martin Sheridan is a Project Manager in the Hazardous Materials group and has been with Pinchin since 2018. Martin accepted the role of Regional Practice Leader for BC in October 2019 and has been providing the BC region with internal training relating to hazardous materials along with technical support across various BC offices.


Hussein Jaffer
Director, Hazardous Materials

With over 20 years of environmental consulting experience, Hussien Jaffer is the Director for the British Columbia Hazardous Materials group at Pinchin Ltd and has been with Pinchin since 2008. His role encompasses a wide range of Hazardous Materials, Occupational Health & Safety, and Hygiene consulting services throughout British Columbia.

Refund Policy

If a participant withdraws more than 2 weeks before the start of the course, a full refund is given. If they withdraw less than 2 weeks but not more than 1 week before the start of the course, a 50% refund is given. No refund is given for cancellations within 1 week of the course. Substitutions may be permitted at the discretion of the Course Administrator.
